Scheck Hillel’s Upper School theatre program wrapped up an incredible year with its annual Theatre Awards and Thespian Induction Ceremony, held on May 19, 2026. The ceremony was run by the Theatre Leadership Council (TLC), composed of six members between grades 6-12. Additionally, two new members joined the TLC for the 2026-2027 school year, expanding the group to eight members.
The ceremony kicked off with the induction of six students into the International Thespian Society (ITS) as a means to recognize their excellence as theater members. Established in 1929, the ITS celebrates hard work, dedication, and integrity on and off the stage. The new members took a pledge and received official membership pins, certificates, and membership cards.
After the inductions of these new ITS members, the ceremony moved into an awards show, where many students received recognition across various categories. These students were acknowledged for their outstanding achievements in acting, singing, dancing, technical theater, and production leadership. Certain students were further recognized for embodying the Scheck Hillel values of chessed and ruach.
Among the highest honors of the night, the Jordan Alexander Ressler Theater Award was presented to senior Nathan S. for his immense contributions to the theater community. Other highlights included the Legacy Award, which is given to graduating seniors whose years of hard work left a lasting impact on the program, and the Triple Threat Award, which honors a performer who excels in acting, singing, and dancing. Senior thespians were also surprised with a heartfelt tribute video to celebrate their achievements, as well as a “forever ticket” to remind them that they will always have a place in Scheck Hillel’s theatre department.
The night ended with exciting news for next year, with the announcement of Shrek the Musical as next year’s upper school musical. Shrek the Musical is the perfect opportunity for middle and high school students to get involved in the lively theatre community, so be sure to keep an eye out for the many updates to come!
