On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Scheck Hillel’s beloved seniors officially graduated, marking the end of an unforgettable chapter in their lives. Leading up to this important milestone, many seniors reflected on the bittersweet emotions that come with leaving high school behind.
“It’s incredibly surreal and bittersweet. You begin realizing that all the people you see and all the things you like to do, all your hangouts, and everything that makes you feel at home will be left in high school, and that you’re gonna start all over again in a new place,” shared one senior. “There are many doors closing, and an infinite number more opening, and that’s exciting. It’s just a bit sad to not be able to see everyone you know from home as much.”
Along with these emotions, another senior encouraged younger students to “not take high school for granted,” emphasizing how quickly these four years pass by.
The graduation ceremony began with the graduating class walking down the aisles in their caps and gowns as family members, friends, and faculty watched and cheered them on, followed by the singing of the “Hatikvah” and the “Star-Spangled Banner”. Speeches were then delivered by Head of School Rabbi Ari Leubitz and High School Principal Mr. Benjamin Thompson-Echevarria, both of whom reflected on the accomplishments, growth, and resilience of the graduating class.
Carrying on the heartfelt mood of the ceremony, salutatorian Maia Weitzmann delivered a speech centered around backpacks, explaining how they symbolize not only who the students once were, but also who they are destined to become. Following her speech, valedictorian Avichai Meisels addressed his classmates, encouraging them to embrace their future while also appreciating the journey that brought them to this moment.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of diplomas, officially welcoming the seniors as Scheck Hillel graduates. When asked how he felt after graduating, one graduate simply said, “It felt good. It felt right.”
