On November 6, Scheck Hillel’s soccer team faced off against Ferguson Senior High School in their first home game of the season. Parents, staff, and students were in attendance and showed off the incredible ruach that Scheck Hillel has. The energy from the crowd was felt by the athletes on the field, giving them more confidence and determination. The game ultimately ended with a 5-2 victory for the Lions. Junior Rafael Chaberman scored an unbelievable three goals, all of which were celebrated by the crowd and players. Junior Emanuel Buchstein scored an additional goal, and Eli Koenig, a sophomore, scored the fifth and final goal of the night. Scheck Hillel’s goalkeeper, Eric Volovisky, made six great saves, ultimately paving the way for the team’s victory.
Although this was one of the first games of the season, it is certain that the soccer team will continue to demonstrate characteristics of determination, sportsmanship, and teamwork during future games. In fact, on December 2, the Lions played against Gulliver Prep, a highly nationally ranked team. During this game, the athletes truly demonstrated their ability to play with these characteristics. Along with the talent of the athletes, these core values helped the team remain confident throughout the game. This led to Rafael Chaberman’s incredible goal, which eventually steered us towards the victory. Additionally, Eric Volovisky had twelve game-deciding saves that allowed us to maintain the lead.
As a team, the Lions have played highly impressive games that allowed the entire crowd to feel the spirit of Scheck Hillel. Despite this being the beginning of the season, Scheck Hillel’s soccer team is sure to have an incredibly successful year with much support from all students, parents, and faculty!
