Dr. Hana Barouk’s journey at Scheck Hillel started a decade ago–not as a teacher, but as a parent. She was immediately drawn in by how warm and lovely the Hillel community was, and soon chose to get more involved.
“I was so impressed by the spirit here,” Dr. Barouk said, “that I wanted to contribute in a greater way.” Her passion led her to become a teacher at Scheck Hillel; now, she is a remarkable educator who really shows what Scheck Hillel is about. For Dr. Barouk, being part of Hillel is more than just a job; it is something special. “We are so lucky to be part of a vibrant and generous community,” she explained. “When we say ‘Hillel is home,’ it really means something to me.”
As we begin the Jewish new year, Dr. Barouk offers heartfelt advice. “Be kind to yourself. We live in a world where we are constantly compared to unachievable standards, and that can be so harmful,” she said. Dr. Barouk further stressed the importance of following the opportunities ahead of us as opposed to simply focusing on perfection. Moreover, she believes that everyone has their own special spark–a gift that can help make the world a better place. “We can improve the world around us by utilizing the unique gifts Hashem gave us,” she said. She encourages people to recognize their strengths and use them to help others.
Through her teaching, her involvement at Scheck Hillel, and meaningful advice, Dr. Barouk is an excellent example of a person who embodies our school’s core values and is a great role model. Her story shows us that each person can use their gifts to make a real difference in this world!
