As the war in the Middle East continues to escalate, conflicts have begun to span beyond Gaza as new nations, including Yemen and Qatar, begin to intervene. As a result of these conflicts, the State of Israel is now facing a more difficult time protecting itself. The more the war continues to escalate, the more danger Israel faces, leading to more casualties and backlash from the media.
On September 24, a drone launched by the Houthis in Yemen struck Eilat. This attack injured around 22 people, leaving two in critical condition. Although breaches in Israel’s defenses are extremely rare, the citizens of Israel are constantly put at risk due to the relentlessness of the neighboring countries that continue to attack them. On September 25, in response to this attack, Israel bombed Yemen’s capital city, Sana’a. This was Israel’s largest ever airstrike sent to a Houthi-controlled area. Despite this being an act of retaliation, Israel faced backlash for “performing war crimes and genocide” in the Middle East.
Unlike Yemen, which directly attacks the State of Israel, Qatar has indirectly harmed Israel in the form of sending large sums of money to Gaza. Israeli officials have raised concerns that these funds have been used to strengthen Gaza’s armed operations rather than to improve the quality of life of the Gazan people. Although Israel is struggling with larger attacks such as those from Yemen, officials still responded to Qatar with a missile strike on its capital, Doha. As with the attacks in Yemen, Israel once again received–and continues to receive–backlash for the same accusations.
The war continues to escalate as we approach 750 days since the tragedy that occurred on October 7. More and more casualties are pouring in as the days go on. As more countries step into the conflict, the situation worsens for Israel. From what we know now, what will come next remains unclear.
Recently, missile attacks to and from Yemen have increased significantly after the death of Ahmed al-Rahawi, the last prime minister of Yemen. These missiles, while minor before, have become a problem after one missile successfully struck and breached Israel’s missile defense system.
