This February, students from Scheck Hillel’s band and orchestra embarked on a two-day field trip to Orlando. After a long four-hour bus ride, the trip began with the “Sound Design: Music and the Art of Foley Program”, an energetic workshop that gives students a chance to experience a day in the life of a working movie musician. During the workshop, students synced music and choral arrangements, creating sound effects and adding voice overs to incorporate into a clip of Despicable Me. After the workshop ended, students were given a few hours to spend in two of Universal’s greatest parks, Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. The first day of the trip concluded with dinner and settling in the hotel rooms at the Hilton Inn.
The next day, students awoke bright and early to begin their daily davening. As a generous treat, everyone on the trip was given free time to enjoy Universal once again, and later, offered delicious frozen yogurt from Menchies and a wonderful lunch. The trip concluded when students arrived back home from a four hour bus ride. The trip was a “priceless experience” according to one unnamed student, and those who attended cannot wait to participate again next year!
