While hundreds of Scheck Hillel parents anticipated casting their ballots in favor of a presidential candidate on November 5, 2024, they didn’t expect their children to be voting as well–especially not at their very own school!
On November 5, 2024, students from grades 9-12 representing Scheck Hillel’s The Roar Post banded together with their faculty advisor, Mr. Jason Touvi, to host a mock “election” for their peers during their lunch period. With its carefully designed ballots, private booths that encouraged anonymous voting, and “I Voted” stickers, this event granted these future voters an insight into the very real process of voting for president of the United States of America.
Students who took part in the event began by receiving their ballots as they entered the Beit Midrash before rushing to makeshift booths to cast their votes. There, they were given the opportunity to vote anonymously for Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, a third-party candidate, or a write-in candidate of their choosing. Once their votes were in, students were given “I Voted” stickers and delicious lollipops as testaments to their participation.
After a thorough counting of the votes, it was revealed that now-President Donald J. Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, claimed victory in Scheck Hillel’s mock elections. The remaining percentages were comprised primarily of those in favor of Harris and write-in candidates, with few third-party voters.
