This year, the Roar Post is preparing for its most significant expansion yet. In the wake of the October 7th massacre, Jewish schools nationwide have felt an increased need to connect and support each other. The tragedy has deepened Jewish students’ sense of unity within their community, sparking a need for them to branch out and unite with other students like themselves.
Under the leadership of Mr. Jason Touvi, seventh grade English teacher and faculty advisor for the Roar Post, the student-run newsletter has been growing to reach its full potential. Recently, four students—Tamar Grobman, Bina Sragovicz, Gabriella Gorin, and Jeremy Dejman—were nominated to represent the Roar Post in a significant discussion over Zoom in regards to covering both local and nationwide elections. The meeting was led by Joelle Keene, MJE, President and Executive Director of the Jewish Scholastic Press Association. Students from The Ramaz School, Abraham Joshua Heschel School, Shalhevet School, and the Yeshivah of Flatbush came together to discuss the upcoming presidential election, sharing strategies for meaningful, unbiased coverage.
This collaboration between the JSPA, Scheck Hillel, and other Jewish schools indicates our growth as a community of Jewish student journalists. It is crucial, now more than ever, that we stay unified and avoid spreading misinformation in the wake of this tragedy.
As the Roar Post expands, we recognize the importance of fostering unity within the Jewish community, standing together in times of adversity, and reporting with integrity. With Mr. Touvi’s guidance and the opportunities for collaboration ahead, we anticipate not just the growth of the Roar Post, but the impact the newsletter can make as it reaches larger audiences.
