As the “female face” of the United States of America, Harris shares her deep devotion to the betterment of this country. After filling numerous political positions such as attorney general, senator, and vice president, Harris has taken a stand on taxes, rent affordability, the Israel-Gaza conflict, the growth of small businesses, healthcare, energy costs, and environmental protection as a member of the Democratic Party.
Vice President Harris began her career as an attorney, though she joined the political scene in 2004 after being elected District Attorney of San Francisco. Since then, she has emphasized the importance of serving minorities, offenders, veterans, and other groups of people in need as part of her campaign.
Under the Biden-Harris Administration, Harris assisted in investing $1 trillion in road repair, improving public transit, expanding access to high-speed internet, strengthening the Affordable Care Act, expanding healthcare for veterans exposed to toxins, implementing a gun safety reform, and reducing unemployment rates.
Harris aims to raise the status of the working class of America, beginning with reducing taxes, making rent more affordable, and making home ownership more attainable. She has spoken about building an opportunity economy by raising money for families in need of financial support and is passionate about showing support to small businesses, as seen through her $50,000 tax reduction in favor of small businesses. “Small businesses serve as the backbone of this country’s economy,” said Harris.
Harris is also a firm believer that people should have full control over their bodies, and advocates for the reinstatement of Roe v. Wade. During the presidential debate, the vice president stated that “nowhere in America” do women carry pregnancies to term only to ask for an abortion. During the debate, Harris also expressed her positions on transnational criminal organizations for the trafficking of guns, drugs, and human beings.
In addition to her beliefs on the economy and on individual freedoms, Vice President Harris also assured that she will support the right of Israel to defend itself. While she does believe in Israel’s security and in the release of the hostages, Harris also expressed hopes that, “The suffering in Gaza ends and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination,” and plans to send more humanitarian aid and food into Gaza in hopes that a ceasefire is achieved. “Those protesters out in the street, they have a point. A lot of innocent people are being killed on both sides,” she said.
Vice President Harris proudly represents the United States on the global stage. Her policies are heavily shaped by her childhood as a middle-class child raised by immigrants. The vice president claims that “big changes” are to be expected if she is to be elected to office this year alongside her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, who is assisting Harris in promoting her “New Way Forward” program. Only time will tell what is to come of this election.
