As sport organizations find themselves in the midst of crucial decision-making moments, there are many factors that might affect those decisions that lead to a wrong or right manner. One of those factors are the fans. Fans are not only those that go to the stadiums, and cheer for their supporting team. They also go behind the scenes, and try to affect every decision taken by their club. Not only that, but there are times that a certain club might not make the best decision just because of fear over the reaction of the fans. Furthermore, many professional players might take advantage of it, and use social media in order to take advantage of the fans, and cause their team to do something that they don’t want to do. This can cause tension between fans and its club; while it can also move an organization to make good decisions just so the fans do not make conflict over it.
Importantly, fans can move a club’s ideals to different paths. As the spectators are the ones that bring in income, and financial benefits to a club, they automatically have a say in everything that happens. Even though organizations are supposed to make the best decisions based on what they need, fans can move that interest over to another side, and change an organization’s course. An example of this is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As they were in the middle of a rebuild, the fans found themselves desperate for wins. This brought the organization to a moment of confusion, which led to the end of the rebuild, and the start of going all in. On this occasion, this came out to be positive, as they were able to bring Tom Brady, and bring the Super Bowl to their city. However, this is a prime example of how fans can take over important decisions and manage a team’s future in the blink of an eye. However, just as it can go well, it can also go terribly bad. Though the Philadelphia 76ers have been looking for a championship team ever since the franchise started, it has not been able to find that spark. This has led to the fans becoming desperate, and in need of something new. They have gone over a lot of rebuilds, and none of them have fit the bill. The fans have caused the organization to bring in many players that have not worked, and the organization to lose a lot of money, when it was needed for other things.
In conclusion, just as fans can have a positive influence on one’s club, it can also lead to very erroneous decisions. Through social media, fan pages, and even stadium tickets, the fans can show one’s appreciation towards the team they support in a very easy manner. Due to this, fans must always think before taking action, and make sure that what they are doing is the best for their team as a whole.
