Sports Report 9/27: Girls Volleyball Honors Seniors; Cross Country Places 3rd at Annual Invitational

The girl’s volleyball team went 2-1 this week, with wins over Somerset Central Miramar in straight sets and David Posnack Jewish Day School in a tight 4-setter.  They were defeated by Chaminade-Madonna, who currently sit atop the district standings.

The Lions demonstrated amazing serving and team play. Senior Olga Benacerraf played a crucial role in the Lions’ two wins this week, playing both right side hitter and setter. “This [the Posnack game] was the best game we’ve played in my high school career,” Olga mentioned. “We entered the court as a just a group of girls, and got on the bus as a victorious family.”

Olga was also part of an emotional senior night, standing beside her fellow seniors: Shira Sredni, Orli Algranatti, Alicia Matsas, Kaylee Wolf, and Maeve Donaher. The rest of the team organized a moving tribute to the senior group, who have in years past advanced to several District Semifinals.

Next Thursday, the #2 seed Lions cross county lines and travel to Avant Garde Academy Broward in an inter-district matchup.

In other news, both the Scheck Hillel Boys and Girls Cross Country teams placed in 3rd at our Home Cross Country Invitational. 39 boys ran, while 32 girls took part.
