“When I was 8 months old, my father passed away from lymphatic cancer. I grew up differently than most people at this school and have always faced different obstacles, but I thankfully have always had people around me who have helped me during these difficult times. Although most people had something that I didn’t, I was able to create for myself who I wanted to be and realized that everybody needs a family. However, I realized that a family does not necessarily need to be one that is biologically related to you. I have been at Hillel since kindergarten, and growing up here with my 71 classmates has made me feel like they are the brothers and sisters that I never had. I’ve been so involved with school related activities because I feel like I’m giving back to people, especially my Hillel family. The Hillel community as a whole is so welcoming that it makes me feel like I am part of one giant family. It is amazing how close and united everybody is. We are different than most schools in this sense. My grade, in particular, is not like most other grades; we are truly a great family. I have had these people by my side throughout my entire experience at Hillel and I am thankful for those who helped me through any obstacle I may have had and for always being there for me. I hope everybody cherishes their experiences at Hillel because it is truly one of a kind. Even though my classmates and I are graduating, I really hope that we can hold onto our bond forever and stay in touch. I am excited to start this new chapter in my life, especially with all of these amazing people that will forever be by my side. Congratulations to the Class of 2015! WE DID IT!”
