“I grew up very religious, and it wasn’t until my teenage years when I began to shift away from the fundamentals of Orthodox Judaism. I just felt that the stringency and the rules were in contrast to the beautiful aspects of Judaism, its spirituality, and its culture. I completely stopped believing in G-d and being an Orthodox Jew, but I still retained that sense of spirituality and amazing part of Judaism that creates beautiful communities, spreading kindness around the world. What Matisyahu does is filter that spirituality and put it into his music. What a gift he has; I felt like that’s going to be me twenty years from now.”
